Prices Include: UK Flights | Transfers | Accommodation – Ultra-smart chalet next to the pistes. – Beautifully decorated in cream and grey wood. – Vast open-plan dining and sitting room. – Picture windows with balconies and views. – Big TV with DVD. – 150 paces from the nursery slopes and the same from the main shops. – One chalet girl, who lives out.
Dalva is preposterously wonderful. Not only is it one of the smartest and best situated chalets in Val d’Isère, it is unquestionably the roomiest in the resort for six adults or two families.
Dalva is half of that modern chalet between the Savoyarde and Christiania hotels, 150 paces from the edge of the nursery slopes, the same from the main street, perhaps half that from Dick’s, Café Face or Bananas. A perfect position for skiing and après-skiing, yet as quiet by night as by day.
The sitting-dining room is absolutely enormous, almost as high as it is long, with superb views through its vast south-facing windows, a wide balcony, a massive TV with DVD, a cosy dining area and a sizeable open-plan kitchen.
The décor is more Rockies than Alps, and everything from the rugs to the paintings is irreplaceable and rather valuable, so it is a chalet for people who don’t mind treating things with care.
Please note, however, that the sleeping arrangements are not the standard one-double-two-twins-three-bathrooms affair: the bedroom layout is as unusual as the rest of the chalet.
The master bedroom is large, if partly under a sloping ceiling, with a big bed and an en-suite bathroom and loo.
The second bedroom is smaller but higher, with huge windows, a normal-sized French double bed and a door to the upper balcony. It shares with Room 3 an upstairs bathroom and loo, a shower-room halfway down the stairs and another loo by the front door.
And Room 3 is amazing: a long, thin, high room, with huge windows and a door to the balcony, two single beds end to end, two more above them and, nearly eight feet up a vertical ladder, a little platform with two futon beds (well, mattresses, actually), ideal for lovers with a good head for heights and wine.
During school holidays, up to five children can share this room.
When just a couple takes it, we’ll make up the love nest and the bunks, in case passion wanes halfway up the ladder... |
