– A chalet for four – the ultimate in decadence!
– Gorgeous chalet in the centre of Val d’Isère.
– Two pretty bedrooms, each with own facilities.
– Sitting-dining room looking towards the nursery slopes and Bellevarde, with TV and DVD.
– Convenient ski and boot locker downstairs reached by a lift.
– Behind the church, just yards from the slopes.
– One chalet girl, who lives out.

The Squaw Valley is one of the best situated buildings in Val d’Isère. It is in the old village, fifty metres from the edge of the nursery slopes and the same from Val d’Isère’s historic church. Its spaciousness and understated décor make the whole building calm and restful.

Our first-floor apartment here is the smartest of our four two-bedroom chalets. It has a very large sitting-dining room, with a balcony, excellent views up Bellevarde, TV and DVD, small but perfectly-formed bedrooms, one bath and one shower en-suite, two loos, and lots of granite and solid wood and plain white.

Competitors are amazed that we have a demand for chalets for four. Isn’t it missing the point of chalet holidays, since there’ll be nobody who hasn’t already heard this year’s joke or one’s theories on bindings? Surprisingly, there is no shortage of small families, pairs of couples or quartets of friends who are quite happy with their own company, skiing together by day, chatting over dinner, perhaps letting their hair down over a rubber of bridge.

In the past they would have had to take a self-catering flat, and draw lots to see who did the shopping, or two rooms in a hotel. But a little chalet with someone efficient to clean, shop and cook is so much more restful...

The day starts with a substantial breakfast. Fruit juice, porridge and cereals, something cooked and usually eggy, baguettes straight from the bakery, the occasional croissant or pain au chocolat, yogurts and fruit. In the afternoon, our staff leave out bread and jam, freshly-baked cake, tea, hot chocolate etc. to eat how and when you like on your return from the slopes. Dinner is a three-course, fixed-menu, dinner-party-style meal, with something extra every night - kir and canapés, petits fours, port and roquefort or whatever.
With the meal we serve unlimited quantities of a small selection of very drinkable French vins de pays. We also have a wine list offering everything from smarter wines for a small supplement to vintage clarets for a huge supplement.
